Occupation: South Carolina Senator
Anti-Imperialist; Philippines shouldn't be annexed because it would renew the "white burden" of having to intertwine with "inferior races".
- White Supremacist who didn't want the white man to have to mix with another different race.
- Did not want the Southern white man to have to "bear the burden" of another colored race in their midst.
- If America keep incorporating races, where does it stop?
- Goes against the Southern self-interest.
- America will have to work to civilize the "savages".
- The land is in bad shape and not worth taking.
